NBC News Poll shows most Americans don’t want President Biden to run for re-election

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC NEWS) – President Biden is expected to launch his campaign for reelection as soon as Tuesday, according to sources close to the White House. However, his impending reelection bid faces skepticism even within his own party.

A recent NBC News poll shows that 70 percent of Americans believe Mr. Biden should not run for a second term, including 51 percent of Democrats. Many cite his age as a major reason why. At 80 years old, Biden is already the oldest president to ever serve. His allies contend he is fit to do the job.

“Pres. Biden has such a strong record to run on. He’s gotten the country through the pandemic, he has the back of the American people and the American people know that,” said Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).

Former President Donald Trump tops the list of potential Republican challengers, but voters do not have the appetite for a Biden-Trump rematch, according to the NBC News poll. A sentiment even some Republicans agree with.

“And so, we don’t want to repeat that. It takes alternatives,” said Former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R).

Former Vice President Mike Pence says he’ll make a decision about challenging his old boss before late June.

Sources tell NBC News that Julie Chavez Rodriguez will run Biden’s reelection campaign. She is a senior advisor in the Biden White House, the director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, and was the deputy campaign manager on the President’s 2020 campaign. She worked in the Obama Administration and is the granddaughter of labor leader Cesar Chavez.

Biden’s video announcing his reelection bid is expected to be released on Tuesday, the fourth anniversary of his 2020 campaign launch.
