Inmate briefly escapes custody while being transported

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -An inmate briefly escaped from the custody of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Saturday night.

Reports say that 30-year-old Sherrod Spivey was being transported from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Detention Center to the Bibb County Law Enforcement center across the street for a medical issue. Spivey broke away from the deputy that was transporting him and was able to get away, although he was still in handcuffs.

More deputies were called in to search for Spivey, who was found in the 700 block of Liberty Ave, and surrendered without incident around 10 p.m.

An internal investigation is being conducted on the incident by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division.
