Restaurant Report Card: Treasures By The Tracks

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – “I wanted to have something to sell that was different that nobody else had,” said co-owner Paige Childs.

Downtown Gray has a strip of shops not 30 yards from the railroad tracks.

Among them, lies a treasure.

“So when we first opened this place all I had in my mind was chicken salad and pimento cheese,” said Paige Childs.

“Right at six years, I think at the end of this year that’ll make six years,” said co-owner Rick Childs.

Owners Paige and Rick Childs’ customers have found their Treasure By The Tracks.

“And what I found is, if it’s full back there and there’s a line, it’s time for a new table, so I’d add a table,” said Paige Childs. “Then that would happen again and I’d add a table and that would happen again.”

“It’s an excellent place, great people, great food that you wouldn’t expect,” said customer Glenn Harrell.

If you want a sandwich just right, stop by downtown Gray.

Glenn Harrell’s music shop sits next to the restaurant.

“So I have to smell this stuff all the time…it’s very difficult,” said Harrell.

Difficult not to love panini!

The health inspection score is a treasure in itself.

“I know the health inspector, too, and I know he doesn’t cut any slack–he’s pretty strict, so it’s a good sign,” said Harrell.

It doesn’t take a map to enjoy the 100 on the wall.

“In my kitchen you see what we’re doing and you see how clean it is, so it’s the biggest priority that you have,” said Paige Childs.
