Off-duty officer injured in crash, killing man in Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) – Police say a 20-year-old man was killed in a crash involving an off-duty Atlanta police officer.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office says Ramish Attai died in the crash Wednesday morning. Police say Attai was the passenger of the vehicle driven by off-duty officer Shawn Jones, who was injured and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Police say the car driven by Jones slammed into a wall.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy says Jones is the son of assistant chief Shawn Jones. Police say the younger Jones was a member of the Atlanta Police Department’s airport division and been with the department since Nov. 2011.

Georgia State Patrol Sgt. John Cronin tells local news media report that police arrested another driver. The name of that driver has not been released.
