Students at Mercer University want more parking spaces on campus
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Students at Mercer University say trying to find a parking spot is costing them valuable time.
Around 3,000 students attend classes at the Macon campus.
A spokesperson from Mercer University says there are about 2,500 parking spaces available to students.
So that means there are 500 more students than parking spaces. But University spokesperson Kyle Sears tells 41NBC, “At any given time there are always open parking spaces on campus.”
Students tell us finding parking on campus can be a challenge.
Sophomore student Sarah Link said, “I was driving to class with three friends. We all have the same class, and [when] we were trying to find parking, we couldn’t. So she had to park off campus before we could all go to class, so we were late to class because we couldn’t find parking. So, it is very difficult.”
University officials say even if students can’t find parking close to the building they want to go to, walking across campus should only take ten minutes.
Sears says, the University has added 600 new parking spaces recently.
