Coach’s Corner: Washington County in unfamiliar territory after losing season in 2015
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It was a bit of a different year for the Washington County Golden Hawks, as they suffered their first losing season since 2007.
The Hawks finished 2015 with a 5-6 record, and lost to Spencer at home in the first round of the playoffs, 47-34.
It was a rough start for WaCo in 2015, as they lost the first four games of the season.
There will be a new region for the Golden Hawks, as they moved to Region 3-AA, with Bleckley County, Dodge County, Dublin, East Laurens, Northeast, and Southwest.
This is Joel Ingram’s 11th season as head coach.
OFFENSE:
The Golden Hawks scored 37.7 points-per-game last season.
This season’s quarterback position will be contested by Connor Frazier and Jake Helton.
Returning players: Darius Tucker, AJ Moss, Cortevyas Mitchell, Gambill Williams, Tim Edwards, Mitch Lord, and Chandler Seals.
DEFENSE:
Washington County allowed a relatively high amount of points against opponents last year, 27.2 points-per-game, which contributed to their overall losing record.
Returning players: Preston Daniels, Darkeveus Swint.
FIRST GAME: August 26th, versus Jones County.
