Local organization hosts annual book bag giveaway

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Students in Macon-Bibb County are now a week away from their first day back in the classroom.

A local organization is making sure students have the supplies they need for the upcoming school year.

Guyton Entertainment and friends are getting ready for their annual book bag drive.

“We’ve been blessed to do some things in the area, different events and parties and people have always supported us,” says Ray Wilson who is the Co-chair of Guyton Entertainment.

This is the fifth year the organization has given out free school supplies and backpacks to students.

Wilson adds, “We always just try to give back. You can’t perform any job if you don’t have the right tools. So, if we’re able to get a kid a book bag, the binders, the paper and the things they need to help them be successful in school, then we made an impact.”

Taking some time out of the day and giving back to those in the community has become a tradition for this entertainment group. Guyton entertainment hopes to impact lives all across Middle Georgia.

Larry Guyton, CEO of Guyton Entertainment says,”Ninety-percent of the stuff we see in our community is negative. It’s nice to do something in the positive light to show kids you can do something positive and still be somebody. It doesn’t make you lame or uncool to do stuff positive for other people.”

Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces motivates Guyton and friends to continue their mission.

The organization hopes to give out more than 500 book bags, which would be more than last year.

Club Sinsations, exotic plush hair, Texas Road House and individuals in the community donated money to purchase book bags.

The giveaway is Tuesday, July 26th at 4pm at the Alexander ballroom located at 3670 Eisenhower Pkwy.

Book bags will be given out on a first come first serve basis and kids must be present to receive a free back pack.
