New traffic light installed near Houston County school zone

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new traffic light is being installed at what leaders call a  busy school intersection in Houston County.

Representatives from the Houston County Board of Education, the City of Perry, and Georgia Department of Transportation met on Wednesday to discuss the new change.

The goal is to curb the flow of traffic and increase safety outside of Matthew Arthur Elementary School.

“It is going to be an asset to the Board of Education, to this school that is here, and peak periods of the day during school time the traffic is very problematic,” says Tommy Stalnaker, Chairman of the Houston County Board of Commissioners.

The traffic light is being installed at the intersection of Moody Road and Ga Highway 127. Construction cost $200,000 and was purchased using SPLOST dollars.
