Woman charged in crash that killed former Georgia lawmaker

APPLING, Ga. (AP) – A woman charged in a crash that killed a former Georgia lawmaker has been sentenced to serve two years on probation.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1X4XGWg ) the son of former state Sen. Joey Brush of Appling asked a Columbia County Superior Court judge Thursday to show mercy for Kimberly Chere Crouch.

Crouch agreed to a plea deal after she was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to stop at a stop sign, both misdemeanors, in the May 2015 collision. Authorities said 59-year-old Brush was killed when Crouch’s car pulled out in front of his motorcycle.

Crouch sobbed in court, saying: “I wish I could bring him back.”

A builder and minister, Brush served in the Georgia House and Senate between 1992 and 2004.
