Funeral held for FVSU student stabbed to death
FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hundreds of students gathered at the Pettigrew Center on Fort Valley State University’s campus Wednesday afternoon for the homegoing ceremony for freshman, Donnell Phelps.
Phelps was stabbed to death on May 3rd on Fort Valley State University’s campus. At the funeral, family, friends, and classmates expressed their thoughts about Phelps as they remembered him and the good times they shared.
Some students say, the mood inside the funeral gave them a sense that everything will be okay and the spirit of their former classmate will always be with them.
“To see the family doing so well , you know during this time, it really lightens the student body and help us get along much better,” says 2016 graduate Christopher Thomas.
The university dedicated May 11th as Donnell Phelps day.
