Restaurant Report Card: The Coffee Cup
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – “The building’s almost about 200 years old,” said Coffee Cup owner Gary Moulliet.
The walls at the Coffee Cup remember a lot.
“It’s been a drug store a couple of times, doctors offices, lawyers offices, during World War II it served as the draft board,” said Moulliet.
They’ve stayed strong in spirit–the spirit of Perry.
“We like to bring in the history of Perry we like to show how the building looked then and how it looks now,” said Moulliet. “A lot of other things have been rebuilt, but we try to rebuild them with that spirit.”
The Coffee Cup’s menu has some great breakfast food and sandwiches for lunch–but there’s a special flare to the food.
“For instance, once a week we’ll do red beans and rice, and we’ll do gumbo,” said Moulliet. “Once a year for Mardi Gras I’ll make beignets.”
Moulliet is from New Orleans.
“Just to kind of treat the locals to a little bit of our heritage from New Orleans, but keeping with the heritage of Perry,” said Moulliet.
After all, this restaurant has seen lots of Perry days go by, and smelled a lot of good meals.
Plus, the perfect health inspection makes it all even better.
“You have to eat in a place as if it was your home, and you wouldn’t eat in a filthy place at home,” said Moulliet. “You have to have a clean place if you’re serving food to people–not to mention the health laws that are involved but forget about that. I don’t want to eat in a dirty place.”
