Macon-Bibb EMA prepares for county-wide drill
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb’s Emergency Management Agency is holding a county-wide shelter in place drill.
EMA director Spencer Hawkins says residents need to have immediate safe shelter no matter if you’re at work, home, school, or traveling.
It’s just a drill, but Hawkins says it’s best you know where your safe zone is in the case of an emergency.
“You’re looking for an interior room without windows that doesn’t have a lot of exterior facing walls so closets, bathrooms, interior conference rooms, are great for that,” he said.
The drill starts Wednesday at 10 a.m.
The EMA is hosting a social media contest where people are asked to post pictures of themselves in their safe areas on social media using #SiPMaconBibb.
The winner, who’ll be chosen by drawing, will get to sound the emergency sirens during a monthly test in April and May.
