Butler Police investigates burglary at local gun shop

BUTLER, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Butler police officers need the public’s help locating two suspects who stole several guns from a gun store.

The police chief says the thieves may be armed and dangerous.

“There were two Glock handguns, two Ruger handguns and two Ruger charger pistols, and two Colt 22 assault rifles, and a Mossberg 22 assault rifle,” store owner Bo Barrow adds.

Nearly ten stolen guns are now on the streets after they were stolen from Barrow’s Automotive in Butler over the weekend.

“I think they expected to get more but the alarm scared them away, I guess, and they left the guns on the floor and they picked up a few and left,” Barrow continues.

A police report states two men threw a rock through the front window to get inside. Between 1:00 A.M. and 1:30 A.M. early Saturday morning, the suspects broke the glass to the gun counter and stole the guns.

They were wearing dark clothing and their faces were covered.

Chief Jimmy Towns says they are working to put these criminals behind bars because things can get worse.

“We got so much violence going on in the world today and we don’t want this weapon to get in the wrong people’s hands, kids, anything like that. Innocent lives can be harmed because these are some dangerous weapons,” Chief Towns explains.

Customers say this is a friendly environment, and couldn’t imagine why someone would do something like this.

“They maybe thought they were gonna get something they couldn’t buy, didn’t have the money for, but other than that, I have no idea why,” says Marsha Starling, who is a frequent customer.

After being in business for 48 years, the owner of the gun shop says this was no surprise.

“We expected it before now. Most dealers have it more often than we do. I mean a lot of them around that’s been burglarized,” Barrow continues.

Police hope to catch the thieves before they act again. Butler police officers say two vehicles were involved. Footage showed a sedan and a mid-sized SUV circling the building before the burglars entered the business.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Butler Police Department at 478-862-5451.
