New CGTC building named after Roy “Sonny” Watson

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A long-time community leader for Houston County was honored today at a special ribbon cutting ceremony on the Central Georgia Technical College campus.

Roy “Sonny” Watson spent over 20 years serving in the Georgia State House of Representatives, and now the new CGTC Health Sciences building bares his name.

“It’s such a humbling experience for me to have a building of this magnitude named after me,” Watson said. “This is the first of its kind in the Central Georgia area, [CGTC] has a building that’s really dedicated to medical science.”

Watson also believes it’s important for Houston County to have a modern medical educational facility in order to help supply staff to local area hospitals.

“We see the need everyday of the medical field, and all physical sciences,” Watson continued. “And we just couldn’t get enough, they couldn’t get enough. It’s a great tribute to Houston County, and to our hospital, to have this asset to provide the employees to us.”

Watson currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Houston Healthcare System.
