Macon-Bibb EMA prepares disaster mitigation plan
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb’s mitigation plan is almost ready for the state’s approval.
The EMA had its last public hearing and committee meeting for the plan Thursday. A mitigation plan is a way for the county to lessen the impacts of disasters. Lightning, climate change and transportation accidents are new areas the EMA is looking into adding to the plan.
“We review this plan every five years and we’re finishing up. Today is our last public meeting. We’re going to take the comments from today’s public meeting and put that back into the plan and then we’re going to send it to the state emergency management agency for review and then it will to go to FEMA,” said Macon-Bibb EMA Director Spencer Hawkins.
Hawkins said the plan will be ready for the state’s review in about a week.
