Cold front brings heavy rain and storms to Middle Georgia today

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Heavy rain and storms are the story today as a cold front moves through the state. This front brought nasty weather out west, including a tornado in Alabama, but as is normally the case, we’re going to see a much less dangerous version of it.

First, let’s talk about the timing. Those of you in western and northern counties — Bibb, Monroe, Jones, Taylor, Crawford, Houston, Peach, etc. – will likely see the heavy rain and storms arrive between 9am – 11am. Those of you east of there — Treutlen, Laurens, Hancock, Baldwin, Telfair, Wheeler, etc. – will likely see the arrival of the heaviest rain and storms between 11am – 1pm.

Due to the heavy rain in a short period of time, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch through 1am Thursday morning. There’s also a normal marginal chance for severe weather with gusty winds being the main concern. All in all, this isn’t the ‘scary’ system which yesterday moved through states west of us. Storms, gusty winds and heavy rain are all possible, but simply take them seriously and don’t be afraid of it. And always remember: don’t drive into flooded waters.

By tomorrow, plenty of clouds will still be around, but the bulk of the rain and storms will be gone. By Friday, sunshine returns.

Highs tomorrow drop to the mid 50s, and overnight lows will plummet to the low 30s by Friday morning.
