Strong storms enter Middle Georgia tomorrow morning, clearing out for the weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After a foggy Tuesday morning, we’ll still see plenty of clouds this afternoon. Despite that, temperatures will be much warmer than average with a high of 76. A small chance for showers persists today, similar to yesterday, when most of the rain was in the form of light precipitation.

Tomorrow, things get much more hectic. A line of storms, as you can see in the picture above, moves into our area in association with a cold front. Models show high wind shear with this system, which means nasty wind gusts could be an issue. Due to that, the National Weather Service so far has us at a ‘marginal’ chance for severe weather and may be upgraded to a ‘slight’ chance, which is standard for Middle Georgia in regards to severe storms.

The timing for this is during the morning. Right now, we could see the showers/storms enter the area as early as around 2am – 3am, with the heaviest rain and most widespread storms between 8am – 10am. That’s the best estimate we have so far and we’ll continue to update you as the models change.

By Wednesday afternoon, we’ll still see plenty of clouds, but there won’t be as much rain. It’s possible a round of showers enters Thursday early morning, but by Thursday afternoon, we’re going to start clearing out. Highs return to the 50s starting Thursday and through the weekend.
