Macon Water Authority to raise rates due to increase in costs

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Macon Water Authority is raising prices after a nearly 80% increase in cost of operations
MWA says that there’s been an increase in costs for chemicals to treat water, fuel, electricity, and contract labor expenses.
The rate change will go into effect January 1st of 2023. MWA said that a typical family in Macon-Bibb County will see about a $3.90 increase to their bill, if using the expected amount of water.
The Macon Water Authority says that even with the slight increases in MWA water and sewer base charges next year, the authority will remain below the average rates of other water and sewer utilities in middle Georgia.
