Man dies in Dodge County fire despite rescue attempt

RHINE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Dodge County man died in a house fire Friday afternoon despite an attempt to save him.

Coroner Joe Smith said two people pulled 55-year-old Jary Williamson out of his Jacksonville Highway home around 4 p.m.

Williamson was talking to the men after they rescued him. He sat down on the back of a truck after they took him away from the fire, but then he collapsed and died at the scene. Smith said Williamson died from smoke inhalation and second/third degree burns.

Smith added Williamson lived with his wife, but she was at work when the fire started.
