Amerigroup donates school supplies to Bibb schools
Amerigroup donated trunks filled with school supplies to schools in the district.
In a digital age where more things are clickable, touchable, and on a screen. There’s still an appreciation for sheets of paper — boxes of it, along with other school supplies.
“More times than you can count, we come out of our own pockets for supplies for our children,” Robert Shepherd, a teacher said.
Teachers at L.H. Williams Elementary School were one of four schools in Bibb County chosen to get their classrooms’ shelves restocked.
“We wanted a Title I school and a school that would be in need, and students that would be in need of more supplies than not,” Amber Jones, a marketing rep with Amerigroup, said.
Healthcare provider Amerigroup — a community provider with the school district — opened it’s mobile teacher’s closet.
“This money comes out of their pockets and we’re so thankful to have that $500 that we will utilize with every classroom teacher in our building as well as our support staff,” Phyllis Theodore, an assistant principal at L.H. Williams, said.
“It’s rewarding to be in a position to be able to help these teachers out. We want to make sure that we came to the school mid-semester when we know supplies are running out and re-up them with things that they need,” Jones said.
Each teacher will get a chance to use some of the money for their classrooms.
“Sometimes people forget that the teachers also need supplies. It’s not inexpensive to buy these supplies,” Jones said.
An investment educators hope will help the next generation.
“That little bit of money will definitely go a long way,” Shepherd said.
Theodore says the school plans on stretching that $500 to help out as much as possible.
