UPDATE: Water main breaks, drivers face traffic delays on Mercer University Drive
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One lane is now open on Mercer University Drive heading west.
A water main break previously blocked Mercer University Drive westbound Monday around 5 a.m.
Bibb Sheriff’s deputies rerouted traffic around the spill.
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) has a work crew there.
Maintenance manager Darryl Macy says the cast iron pipe burst this morning.
“This is an everyday thing for us. It’s normally not quite this size,” says Macy.
The sheriff’s office let the Georgia Department of Transportation know about it.
The sheriff’s office urges drivers find an alternate route and avoid Mercer University Drive westbound lanes, west from Pionono Avenue to Anthony Road, and Columbus Road west from Pionono Avenue to Mercer University Drive.
If you’re in the area, expect traffic delays.
