Restaurant Report Card: Gringo’s
It’s that good.
But first, here’s a couple of restaurants that need to step it up this week.
Papa’s Wings and Deli on Pio Nono Avenue scored a 70.
They had a few different meats sitting in separate containers in a larger container full of bloody water, thy used raw chicken boxes to store lettuce, and they reused spice containers for special spice mixes.
IHOP on Watson Boulevard scored a 67.
An employee wasn’t using a straw when drinking, the bacon was partially cooked, and an employee didn’t use a hair restraint.
Other scores this week:
Crazy Bull on Second Street scored a 100 after failing last week.
Dab’s Cafe on Terminal Drive – 95
Francar’s on Linden Avenue – 100
J. Christopher’s on Starcardia Circle – 90
Tucker’s Barbecue & Drive In on Broadway – 100
2 Guys and a Pie Pizzeria on Highway 247 – 91
Anna’s Asian Cafe on Highway 96 – 93
Asian House Review on Watson Boulevard – 76
Buffalo Wild Wings on Watson Boulevard – 91
Cuban Island Cafe on Highway 247 – 91
El Jalisciense Mexican Restaurant on Russell Parkway – 87
Good scores this week.
“It’s extremely laid back and casual,” said manager Adam Greene.
It’s as easy as ordering at a taco stand. That’s the vibe Green is looking for at Gringo’s.
“You can order if you want to, you can go sit down if you want to, take your time with it–you know what I mean,” said Greene.
Unconventional ordering and unconventional taste.
“It’s different, that’s the biggest thing about it to me,” said Greene. “It’s not conventional tacos.”
That’s probably the difference between Gringo’s and a taco stand–the food.
“We do have ground beef and we do have roasted chicken tacos, but we have different things,” said Green. “Fried green tomato BLT tacos. We have low country boil tacos as well. They’re just really cool combinations.”
That perfect health inspection is a must, of course.
“We do a good job about letting our staff know that hey this has to be covered, this has to be a certain temperature, so we’re very thorough in training our employees and I think that really shows,” said Greene.
Gringo’s is making the grade this week.
