Monroe County teenager dead after friends played with gun
The fatal shooting happened Saturday around 1:30 a.m. at 175 Old Rumble Road, according to Allison Selman-Willis, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer.
17-year-old Gabryon Walker was taken to Medical Center, Navicent Health where he was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m.
Two teenagers at the home told deputies the gunman, 18-year-old Kaleb Oliver Greene, ran into nearby woods after the shooting.
“The suspect was horse playing,” explained Selman-Willis. “It was really just being reckless with a weapon.”
Deputies searched the woods with the help of canines. Greene, who has a Byron address, was eventually located at a home in Houston County.
He is in the Monroe County Jail charged with involuntary manslaughter, pointing a gun at another and reckless conduct.
“Depending on the investigation, there could be additional charges,” said Selman-Willis.
