UPDATE: State representative offering reward for information about Milledgeville shootings
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – State Representative Rusty Kidd is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the recent Milledgeville shootings. This brings the the total reward offer up to $5,000.
Macon Regional Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for any information about any of the shootings that leads to an arrest. The Milledgeville police chief said he will match that offer if the arrest leads to a conviction. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is not offering a reward at this time.
The Milledgeville Police Department is investigating a total of 15 shootings in the city and county since July.
Kidd hopes the reward money will encourage people to come forward with information. He believes people know who the shooter or shooters are and are afraid to say it.
“I hope they come forward tomorrow so the arrest can be made tomorrow or the next day and everybody in town, especially on that side of town, will sleep better and not be scared to go get in their cars and have somebody drive-by and shoot at their car,” said Representative Kidd.
The most recent shooting happened last Sunday night at a home on Charlton Street. No one was injured. Investigators believe the shootings are gang related.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Milledgeville Police officers are investigating their 15th drive-by shooting since July.
It happened late Sunday night at a home on Charlton Street. No one was injured.
Investigators say a bullet hit a car in front of the house. It ricocheted off and hit the house. The victim told investigators the only other person that lives in the home is her son and he wasn’t there when it happened. Officials found several 9 mm shell casings in the road in front of the house. They believe this shooting is related to the others.
“The only thing we can hope for is for someone to come forward that has seen something. The original shooting, they say, there was a crowd there and had to have a boatload of witnesses but everyone’s too worried about their own safety to come forward,” said Milledgeville Mayor Gary Thrower.
