Tips on staying safe at the pool
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One recreational activity that is being exercised this summer is swimming, but always remember safety first.
Statistics show that everyday about ten people die from unintentional drowning, but research shows that taking swimming lessons can reduce those risks.
Pool manager of the Frank Johnson Recreation Center, Ricardo Hamlin, has been a life guard for over 30 years. He says that everyone should be aware of their surroundings because drowning is not the only thing that could happen to swimmers. Swimmers can suffer from head injuries, spinal cord injuries, bruises, or scrapes.
Hamlin encourages everyone to take swimming lessons.
