Fraternity holds men’s health fair at Warner Robins barbershop

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity hosted a health fair Saturday.

Nearly 40 men were screened for diabetes, and had their blood pressure and cholesterol checked at Mainstream Barbershop.

It was all part of the Alpha Phi Alpha Barbershop Health Outreach Initiative.

“I don’t want to stereotype,” says Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Gamma Sigma Lambda Chapter President, Kenneth Taylor. “But, they (men) have a tendency not to go and get health screenings.”

Several agencies partnered with the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity for the Barbershop Health Fair, including the Georgia Health Department, Mercer University Medical School, Fort Valley State University, and the American Red Cross.
