Northside High School teacher involved in fight with student appeals state’s sanction
According to Dr. Paul Shaw, the Director of Educator Ethics with the PSC, Daniel Kelly appealed the sanction to the Attorney General’s Office. There could be a hearing or the Attorney General’s Office could agree to a plea deal. Shaw says the PSC would have to approve of the deal.
The PSC received a complaint and opened an investigation to determine if Kelly violated the code of ethics. The commission cannot release many details of its decision because this is still an open case.
The Warner Robins Police Department charged Kelly with simple battery after he got into a fight during class at Northside High School on December 1, 2014.
Kelly resigned from the Houston County School District in January. In a letter he sent to the school board, Kelly wrote his actions were “entirely reactive and were provoked by the student.”
The student involved in the fight was sent to an alternative school.
