DA: Doctor, nurse arrested after Eastman ‘pill mill’ bust

EASTMAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A doctor and his nurse are in the Dodge County Jail without bond accused of running an illegal ‘pill mill’ out of their office.

The Oconee Drug Task Force with help from several law enforcement agencies started investigating Dr. George Mack Bird. The task force executed search warrants on Bird’s offices and home. 

The 56-year-old was arrested and charged with Sale of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Possession of Schedule II and Schedule IV Controlled Substances with intent to distribute, illegally written prescriptions, and use of pre-signed prescriptions. 

34-year-old Jennifer Douglas, a registered nurse who works for Bird, was arrested and charged with two counts of Sale of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. 

The task force seized almost a million dollars in cash, two office buildings, a house, four vehicles, and $3 million in additional assets. 

The DA’s office says more arrests and charges may be pending.
