Restaurant Report Card: BL Smoker’s Barbecue

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – “Well, I smelled it all the way from Lizella, Georgia,” said BL Smoker’s customer Sherod Motley.

The smell is just as good as the barbecue.

“I believe in the two D’s–delicate and delicious,” said Motley.

And the meat is delicate and tender.

“You can actually take your teeth out when you eat it,” said BL Smoker’s owner Leroy Morgan.

I didn’t have to do that, but man, those ribs at BL Smoker’s were good.

“I do 48 states I’m an over-the-road truck driver, and every time I come home I have to eat here,” said customer Debora Aikens.

Morgan knows what he wants.

“I was in the Air Force for awhile, I moved around the United States,” said Morgan. “I’ve tasted a lot of barbecue and I know what I like.”

And what he likes, his customers love.

“The ribs are so delicious that when I see him cooking em, they really come from the bone,” said Motley.

It simply takes time to get that good.

“I think it’s the best because we cook it slow, and for a long time,” said Morgan.

The former police officer aims to get to know you, but is serious about being clean.

“It’s a nice, friendly place,” said customer Gloria Gray. “He’s got a nice personality.”

The perfect health inspection is a big deal.

“Gotta have it–if we miss it by a couple of points, then someone’s going to be fired, basically,” said Morgan.

“You don’t want to worry about bacteria getting in the food or whatnot, plus he’s got a very nice place you can sit down and eat,” said Motley.

When you do take a bite, just a reminder: It tastes as good as it smells.

“It’s a part of my memory bank because I’m a big guy, see?” said Motley.

“This is the best barbecue you’ve ever had,” said Aikens.
