Restaurant Report Card: Macon Pizza Company

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – At Macon Pizza Company you’ll find pizza on the menu and the Dykstra family.

“I jump in and help make pizzas when we have big orders you know,” said 13-year-old Allyssaa Dykstra.

“We’re here. Here’s one and two, and one behind you,” said co-owner and Allyssaa’s mother, Angie.

Plus two more family members at home.

But first, here’s a restaurant that needs to step it up this week.

Jalapenos Mexican Grill in Gray scored a 78.

They had an outdated food manager safety certificate, they didn’t have their inspection score posted, and the kitchen wall had holes in it.

Other scores this week:

Atlas Bar on Napier Avenue – 100

Margaritas Mexican Grill on Presidential – 93

South Macon Diner on Houston Avenue – 100

The Corner Cafe on Hemlock Street – 91

The Mandarin Chinese Bistro on Riverside Drive – 90

A Couple of Jerks Soda Fountain Shop on Carroll Street – 91

Allen’s Stone Baked Pizzeria on Margie Drive – 97

American Wings & Deli on Watson Boulevard – 91

Chief’s Bar-B-Que Catering on Mt. Zion Road – 100

Meldino’s 1 on Gunn Road – 85

Mellow Mushroom on Lake Joy Road – 100

S Deli and Wings on General Courtney Hodges Boulevard – 87

“It was formally Digiorgio’s pizza, but people confused us with frozen pizza,” said Angie.

Don’t get it confused.

“I’ve never even had Digorno’s,” said Allyssaa. “It’s going to stay that way.”

Macon Pizza Company isn’t frozen pizza.

“They’ve learned to do this since day one,” said Angie.

It’s fresh and hot from the oven.

“Yeah, this like, we pretty much almost live here,” said Allyssaa. “We just have that other house just to sleep in.”

There’s five kids total, and three cooked next to their mother while we were there.

But don’t let the age fool you.

“Home is different, but here they know the business, they know what needs to get done and they really embrace it,” said Angie.

“It’ll be 10.46 because we have the large one topping for 7.99 on special,” said Alyssaa.

And they can deliver on wheels.

“I know we kind of argue sometimes, you know, I’m going to take out this diner and she’s like no, I’m going to take out this diner,” said Alyssaa.

Plus, the family keeps the restaurant clean.

“You know it means a lot,” said Angie. “We try to make sure that the restaurant is up to standards for all the grading type stuff, so.”

Setting up for what could be a slice of a bright future.

“Uh, I’d be cool doing that just because I know how to do everything,” said Alyssaa. “And, once I’m grown up ya know. My dad already tells people look, you know if my kids could drive I could just stay home everyday.”

“It’s awesome to watch as a parent,” said Angie.

Macon Pizza Company is making the grade this week.
