Man driving with lights off eludes officers, causes an accident

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man driving a car without any lights turned on was arrested after crashing into another car.

The collision happened at the intersection of Pebble Street and Second Street around 4 a.m. Saturday, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Bibb County patrol deputies spotted 29-year-old Carlton Alexander of Macon driving a 2004 Honda Accord north in the 2300 block of Houston Avenue without his lights turned on.

“The Patrol Deputies attempted to get behind the vehicle to make a traffic stop but lost sight of it due to it not having the lights,” continued the release. “Another Patrol Deputy spotted the vehicle on Houston Avenue near Pebble Street and attempted to stop it.”

Alexander ran a stop sign on Pebble Street at Second Street and struck a black 1995 Honda Civic, driven by 43-year-old John Tripp of Fort Valley.

Alexander was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended or revoked, disregard of traffic control device, driving without headlights at night, serious injury by motor vehicle, driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police obstruction and open container.

Tripp was taken to the Medical Center Navicent Health for his injuries following the crash and is listed in stable condition.
