Telfair Sheriff’s Office investigating a possible law enforcement impersonator

HELENA-MCRAE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Telfair County Sheriff is warning residents about a possible law enforcement impersonation case.

The sheriff’s office received reports of two cars that were pulled over by unknown people on S. Highway 441.  The drivers were using a pick-up truck with a blue light.  Deputies didn’t find a vehicle matching the description when they arrived at the scene.  Sheriff Chris Steverson wants everyone to be careful when they’re on the road.

“If they’re being stopped by something other than a fully marked patrol unit, they should slow to a safe speed and contact 911 to verify the legitimacy of the stop,” explains Sheriff Steverson.

He adds it’s against the law for someone to impersonate a law enforcement officer.  If these reports are true, the suspects could face felony charges.
