Mother of abandoned Macon baby located

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones has been searching for a woman who has not claimed her baby’s body.

The baby died January 13 at Navicent Health. Jones say the mother, Falecia Stafford, left the baby there until it was taken to a local funeral home.

“I don’t know what the underline cause of why she didn’t, why she did what she did, and I don’t care. But my concern is a baby laying in the basement of a funeral home,” says Jones.

A church missionary saw Jones’ social media post asking for help finding the baby’s mother. Brenda Sutton says she started the process of preparing the baby’s funeral.

“How can I go around the world and do the work, when I was presented with this opportunity for grace and let that grace pass me by,” says Sutton. “I couldn’t do it and call myself a Christian.”

Jones says Stafford called him Thursday and said she would make funeral arrangements. He is waiting for her to come to his office and finish the funeral arrangements.
