Last dog at old Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare Center finds a home
“Snickers was one of the last dogs. They wanted to get all of them out and they asked me if I would help out, and I said of course,” explained Ashley Larsen, Snickers’ new foster mom.
When county leaders were ready to open the new shelter on Fulton Mill Road, they wanted to make sure every animal at the Eleventh Street location had a home. So they made a deal with the group called Shane’s War Pardon.
“We get them to sign this agreement with us where they won’t euthanize for the week while I’m there,” said Shane Smith, the founder of Shane’s War Pardon.
From there, volunteers made non-stop attempts to get these dogs and cats adopted. It took 48 days, but they found homes for every shelter pet.
“Find the new shelter and support it,” advised Smith.
Smith adds, you never know who you’ll meet when you walk in. They might just be your new best friend.
Shane’s War Pardon is based out of Byron, but it helps shelters across the country. The group is heading to California next.
