Funeral arrangements set for fallen firefighter Lt. Randy Parker
The Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home says there will be a visitation from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Macon-Bibb County Government Center.
The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Macon City Auditorium.
According to Parker’s obituary, Pastor John Wood, Pastor Kevin Purcell, Dr. Neal Wall, Capt. Jimmy Hollis, Chief Cedric Scott, and Fire Chief Marvin Riggins will officiate.
The obituary states Parker was born in Warner Robins. He graduated from Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana where he was a member of the Louisiana All State/All Star High School Band.
Lt. Parker served as a firefighter with Macon-Bibb County since July 1990.
He was a member of Christ Chapel Sporstowne. He was actively involved with his church, MDA, United Way, American Cancer Society, and the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival.
Parker’s hobbies included drag racing, riding motorcycles, enjoying music, and spending time with his family and friends. The obituary states “he will be remembered as an inspiration and mentor to all who knew him.”
Randy leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Sandie Parker of Macon, and two sons, Andrew and Chandler.
There will be several road closures the day of the funeral. During the service, Cotton Avenue to Riverside Drive on First Street will be shut down. The intersections will remain open. Poplar Street northbound will also be closed between First and Second Streets. The roads will start closing Monday morning as vehicles start to arrive.
The procession will leave from Macon City Auditorium on First Street and pass the Macon-Bibb County Government Center. It will continue toward the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department’s headquarters and then take a left onto Ogelthorpe Street. From there, the procession will turn right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and then turn left on to Pio Nono Avenue. It will then turn right on to Houston Avenue and end at the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
During the procession, all the roads on the route will be completely shut down.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lt. Randy E. Parker, Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o State Bank or Macon Fireman’s Credit Union, 899 Ogelthorpe Street, Macon 31201.
Lt. Parker lost his life Wednesday night while fighting a house fire on Fairview Drive in Macon. Five other firefighters were injured.
