Hidden tunnels and rooms found in Baldwin County meth house

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Ocmulgee Drug Task Force is continuing its search of a Milledgeville house after the homeowner was recently arrested and charged with selling drugs.

Task force agents arrested 36-year-old Shane Cox on Wednesday. Cox was caught selling methamphetamine on four times, according to the drug task force’s commander Wesley Nunn. Nunn says Cox has been under investigation for several months.

After his arrest, the task force searched Cox’s home located off Sparta Highway.

Commander Nunn called in the GBI bomb squad to assist in the search. Bomb sniffing canines from surrounding counties helped investigators search for explosive devices and booby traps inside the house.

GBI agents found 10 pounds of gun powder on Wednesday. Nunn says drug task force agents located small amounts of methamphetamine throughout the home on Thursday.

Agents also discovered hidden tunnels and secret passage ways beneath the ranch home leading to rooms. They also found other rooms hidden behind walls.

“He dug a hole to make a tunnel 15 feet long that led into a big room underground,” Nunn said.

Agents moved furniture in the living room and found a secret passage that led to a tiny room. Inside they found a safe on the floor.

Cox is booked in the Baldwin County Jail.
