Laurens County to build a new bridge across Oconee River

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – County leaders plan to build a bridge across the Oconee River.

It will connect Country Club Road to the new Buckeye Road.

The Transportation Infrastructure Tax will fund the project.

County Administrator, Bryan Rogers, said the bridge is needed because there are only a few places to cross the river now and accidents block the flow of traffic.

“If there is a medical emergency or some other type of emergency and this bridge is shut down… it really causes problems because all of the medical facilities are over here and the next nearest facilities are in Swainsboro,” explained Rogers.

Construction will begin at the end of the year. County Officials hope to have the bridge finished by September 2016.
