Historical inauguration for Middle Georgia State College President
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Middle Georgia State College made history Friday, by installing its first permanent president.
“I had a torch, that I was being given and my job was to hold it, and share with others and we can see the way we’re going forward.”
Dr. Christopher Blake was given the “charge to the president” by University System of Georgia Chancellor Henry “Hank” M. Huckaby. Chancellor Huckaby also made the presentation of Mace to Dr. Blake.
“It’s in serving others that we really do find our soul,” says President Blake.
During his Presidential address Dr. Blake gave words of encouragement, and told the audience Middle Georgia State College will soon become a university.
“What you see at Middle Georgia State that is so good now can be elevated up,” says Dr. Blake.”We will expand on our current strengths. We will look better, larger, and have a more confident voice and face.”
MGSC’S Band Director, Alan Clark, says they started the marching band with only six members in August. Now, they have 40. His goal is 200. Clark says he agrees with Dr. Blake’s vision of progression.
“I really like his approach to life and his philosophical under-pendings for what he believes and what he does,” says Clark.
Many students say they’re excited for the future, under Dr. Blake’s new leadership.
“His speech was awesome it really encouraged me as a student of Middle Georgia State,” says MGSC Marching Band Drum Major, Matthew White. “I enjoy being a part of something that is growing and moving forward.”
Calabria Turner is a MGSC junior studying English at the school.
“He really elevates us, and shows us our potential and not even just our potential, but who we are,” says Turner.
