Jones County family calls 6-year-old a hero after he calls 911

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One six-year-old in Jones County is being called a hero by his family after taking quick action and calling 911 when his grandmother fainted.

At six, normally you’re thinking about toys, video games, and cartoons.

LJ Lucas does, but in the back of his mind in the event of an emergency, he’s ready to make a move.

“When somebody’s sick call 911,” he said.

That’s exactly what happened a few weeks ago when his grandmother stopped breathing. She was watching him while his mom was at work.

He checked to see what was wrong and then called 911 and waited for the ambulance to come.

After that, he ran outside and tried to find help.

“I just went outside, got in the car, blew the horn and my uncle came down,” he said.

LJ’s mom, Tiffany, says it’s something his grandmother taught him.

“Anybody can get sick, but just in the event of an emergency a child needs to know when to call 911,” she said.

Sadly, LJ’s grandma died.

His family still thinks he’s a hero and thinks he did everything he could and should have done in that situation.

“I am very proud of my baby, he has an old soul,” Tiffany said.

LJ, who calls his grandma one of his best friends, says when they spent time together it was a party.

“We watched TV and ate candy,” he said.

He says he wished they could hang out just one more time, but says he still has a message for her.

“I love her and I can still see her sometimes,” he said.
