The Choice Bus teaches students the importance of graduating high school

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – From the outside looking in, this looks like a regular school bus, but if you take a step inside, you’ll see it’s anything but typical.

The first half of the bus is set up like a movie theater.

This is where students learn that 75-percent of prison inmates are high school drop outs. The movie also features several powerful testimonies of people behind bars who regret dropping out of school.

After students watched the video, they were shown the back of the bus, which is a replica of a prison cell. This is to show them what their life could be like if they choose to drop of out school.

Jeremiah Walker is a junior at Twiggs County High School. He said The Choice Bus reaffirmed his decision to stay in school.

“The way they said that most of the prisoners were high school drop outs… it made me think about not dropping out,” said Walker.

Jackie Curtis, the Graduation Coach for Twiggs County High School, said programs like The Choice Bus are extremely beneficial to ninth graders.

She said if some students decide to drop out of school, she will do everything she can to make them change their minds.

“We’re just excited to be serving students and helping them stay in school and graduate and succeed in life,” explained Curtis.
