GBI searching for Fort Valley killer and driver of hit and run car

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Fort Valley Police and GBI investigators are working to find the person responsible for a fatal shooting during a party.

Investigators also want to know who was driving a car that ran over a man and left him severely injured.

The incident happened Saturday, Sept. 27 around 2 a.m., at a block party being held at Olde English apartments, located at 901 Orange St., in Fort Valley.

Demontarius Quin Lewis, 23, was shot once in the chest, according to Peach County coroner, Kerry Rooks. He was pronounced dead at 2:45 a .m., at the Medical Center of Peach County.

Witnesses say Lewis was at the block party celebrating his 23rd birthday.

Following the fatal shooting, at the same party, witnesses told investigators they heard cars screeching as they drove through a massive crowd gathered for the party.

One of the cars hit 21-year-old Darrell Cullens, knocking him more than six feet in the air.

Investigators are looking for a silver Ford Mustang with a black canvas top. The GBI want to talk with the people inside the car, they are believed to be witnesses to the incident.

When Fort Valley police arrived they found Cullens and Lewis lying on the ground covered in blood. Officers found Cullens “flat on his back,” in front of apartment B-5. Lewis was found on the sidewalk, “not responding at all,” with his eyes fully opened, according to the police report.

“Due to the serious injuries the two black males had received,” wrote Fort Valley Police Sgt. Antoinne Jordan in the police report. “I was unable to get pictures of their positions, and how horrible they looked.”

Sgt. Jordan said he found six 9mm bullet casings at the shooting scene, continued the report.

Cullens was treated and released from a local hospital for his injuries. He has a fractured nose, and a couple of fractured bones, He lost some teeth and his eye is swollen shut, according to a family friend.
