Kathleen man gets 50 years in prison after attacking grandparents
Cook shot his grandparents in the head with their .22 caliber handgun last October. Thomas and Rosylin Livingston were both in their home on Lake Joy Road just before 11 p.m. Cook grabbed the gun and shot his grandmother twice in the head while she was in the kitchen. He then moved to the bedroom where his grandfather was sleeping. Thomas Livingston was able to grab the gun just as it went off. He fought with Cook, taking the gun from him and restraining him until deputies arrived. Rosylin Livingston was able to call 911 in the other room, despite her wounds.
All three people were transported to the hospital for their injuries.
Cook had been held without bond at the Houston County Detention Center until his plea Thursday morning.
Houston County District Attorney George Hartwig offered his condolences to the family. “The Livingstons had allowed Cook to live with them for several months prior to this incident,” said Hartwig. “They were trying to help their grandson.” “(They) showed great courage and resolve that night: she crawled through the house to call for help, and he disarmed the much-younger Cook and him a good pistol whipping,” he continued. “The Livingstons were not ready to just lay down and die,” said Hartwig. “They fought for their lives. My hat is off to them both.”
Rosilyn Livingston has passed away since the incident.
