Bibb school officials plan carpool strategy for Alexander II, amidst nearby road project

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County school officials say they’ll be ready to go on the first day classes begin this Friday, but parents at Alexander II Magnet School need to be prepared.

The school, which only has carpool riders and walkers, is next to a nearby roadwork project on College Street.

Executive Director of Risk Management for Bibb Schools, David Gowan, says a portion of the street will be finished repaving by the middle of the week and parents will be able to access it.

Gowan says the initial plan to access the school will be from either Oglethorpe, Ash, or Coleman Street, adding it’s a similar plan to what they did after spring break this year.

“We are adding staggered arrival times and the school administration is working on that right now and when parents come to the open house they’ll be notified of their staggered arrival time,” Gowan said. 

He believes the staggered pick-ups and drop-offs will ease traffic flow in the area.

Parents will get a map as well as their pick-up and drop-off times during open house this week.

Bibb County schools begin on August 1.
