Court of Appeals denies motion, Gordon Mayor still restrained from office

GORDON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The State Court of Appeals denies Gordon Mayor Mary Ann Whipple-Lue’s emergency motion.

Her lawyer Wayne Kendall, filed the second emergency motion after Judge Robert S. Reeves issued another restraining order against Whipple-Lue at a July 3 application hearing in Emanuel County.

According to Reeves, the Concerned Citizens of Gordon and Whipple-Lue have optional dates ranging from July 21-23 to choose the next hearing. That hearing will determine Whipple-Lue’s mayoral status until the August 1 trial in Wilkinson County.

Currently, Terry Eady presides as Mayor Pro-Tem for Gordon.

City Hall meetings

41NBC reached out to deputy clerk Heather Hawver about the status of Gordon City Hall meetings.

According to Hawver, the meeting on June 2 consisted of a city quorum, which is considered as four or more city council members holding a meeting. Since then, several Gordon city council members have been absent for meetings, including the June 16 and July 7 meetings.

“City business has to keep going with or without the mayor,” says Hawver.

The next city hall meeting is set for Monday, July 21 at 5:30 p.m. at 115 College Street.
