Jones Co. Commissioners Fire County Clerk

 

In a 3 to 2 vote, Jones County Commissioners voted to fire County Clerk, Leila Brittain, at their February 15th meeting.

Brittain worked as the County Clerk for a decade. At the meeting Commissioner Tommy Robinson motioned to terminate Brittain and Commissioner Bert Liston second the motion.

Commissioners Larry Childs and Chap Nelson voted against firing Brittain. Commissioner Childs told 41 NBC he strongly disagreed with the way the situation was handled.

Chairman Preston Hawkins had the deciding vote. According to Commissioner Larry Childs, Chairman Preston Hawkins and fellow Commissioners Tommy Robinson and Bert Liston terminated Brittain based on job performance.

Deputy Clerk, Connie Meyers has stepped in as interim.

Chairman Hawkins declined to comment on the matter.
