‘Miss Molly’ Trolley Erupts in Flames

NewTown Macon’s iconic ‘Miss Molly’ trolley caught fire shortly after 3 a.m. Friday.

The driver of the trolley had just let off his last group of passengers and was returning to the garage to park the trolley, when he noticed flames coming out of the rear engine compartment. He was able to pull the trolley over to the side of the road, but the flames quickly consumed the entire trolley.

Investigators say the cause of the fire is not suspicious.

The trolley is a complete loss, with almost the entire inside being completly charred. The fire grew so hot so fast that some of the metal framework on the seats melted.

Hal Baskin of NewTown Macon, says they are working on a plan to replace ‘Miss Molly’.

“We’re looking at what options we have,” Baskin says. “We know that it will be expensive and we’ll be looking to see what options we have to generate the funds to put Miss Molly back on the street, or a replacement of Miss Molly on the streets.”

No one was injured in the accident.
