Macon Police Officer Charged with Rape

29-year old Christopher Campbell, a three year officer with the Macon Police Department, is in jail charged with rape.· According to a news release from Chief Mike Burns, Campbell was working patrol when the assault occurred.

Friday, a 19-year-old Houston County woman reported being sexually assaulted in the 4100 block of Pio Nono Avenue.· Campbell was questioned Saturday and arrested shortly after midnight on February 20. Other charges may be pending.

Campbell is currently being held in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond. He is scheduled to appear before a Superior Court Judge on Tuesday for a bond hearing.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Campbell resigned his position with department.
