‘Teen Maze’ demonstrates experiences with negative consequences

HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Pulaski County Family Connection, and the University of Georgia Archway Partnership hosted a event challenging teenagers to become responsible adults.

Today, more than 600 student were hands-on at the ‘Teen Maze’ event.

Different volunteers taught the consequences of drinking and driving, unprotected sex and participating in criminal activity through various activities.

Coordinator and UGA Archway professional, Michelle Elliot believes the activities were an emotional tactic to get students to think before they act.

“Our ultimate goal is to reduce things like teen pregnancy, STDs and the chance of living in poverty-all the things that may contribute to the quality of life in the future,” says Elliot.

Hawkinsville High School senior Shykeria Edwards says she hopes her peers know “they are not invincible, and that anything can happen.”

Edwards adds peer pressure is what causes the students in her school to make decisions they regret in the future.

“…In our generation, we need to learn how to make the right decisions and not get caught up on peer pressure and what we hear about,”

Elliot says the annual event gets students talking with their families about their futures, and how to be successful in life.
