Ocmulgee Parking Lot Flooded

BONAIRE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Heavy rainfall Tuesday night and Wednesday morning left an Ocmulgee boat ramp parking lot completely under water.

The parking lot is located on Georgia State Route 96, in Bonaire.

The water covered signs about halfway, out of the river around  3 p.m., on Wednesday. The parking lot normally holds 10 to 12 trucks pulling boats, according to Houston County Puiblic Works Director, Robin Dunbar.

Houston County Sheriff’s Office closed the boat ramp road leading to the river, a public works crewman spotted the flooding, and notified officials, said Dunbar.

Houston County  Sheriff  Maj. Tommy Jackson said they closed the road as a safety precaution.
But, this is not the first time it has flooded.

“The water level has gotten high,” said Maj. Jackson. “We have had in the past vehicles driving down and flooding as a matter of fact we had a patrol vehicle that years ago went down there and flooded in that ramp.”

According to Jackson, the boat ramp will remain closed until further notice.
