Al Tillman Hosts Macon-Bibb District 9 Forum

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The new year kicked off the consolidation of Macon and Bibb County. Since then, government officials and community leaders have been working together to iron out the kinks and get feedback from everyone impacted.

District 9 Commissioner Al Tillman hosted Monday night’s community forum at the Macon Mall, the first of nine listening sessions.

“What I want to be able to share with you this evening are things that are happening in the community,” said Commissioner Tillman.

His agenda included an update on the consolidation of Macon and Bibb County concerning the residents of District 9, a chance for community members to ask questions, plus an opportunity for local leaders to answer those questions and collaborate with residents on how to better improve the area.

“We’ve been working hard to develop plans for the future of how we can not just consolidate governments, but unify the people because we’ve got to have everybody working together if we’re going to move this community forward,” added Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert.

Concerns from citizens included everything from recreation centers and road closures, to bringing more jobs to the area and questions about taxes.

Leaders hope the forums will update Macon-Bibb residents on what they’ve accomplished since the start of consolidation and inspire confidence within the community.

If you’re a resident of District 9 and you missed Monday’s forum, Commissioner Tillman welcomes you to contact him with your ideas and concerns. His number is (478) 951-2409.
